New vehicle registrations continue to rise

Official statistics released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that new car registrations for the year 2015 (124,945) finished up 30 per cent ahead of 2014 (96,284). That was itself a 30pc increase on circa 74,000 units registered in 2013.

The top five selling makes were: Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, and Nissan. The top five selling models were: Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Octavia, Ford Fiesta

Toyota donates state of the art microscope to Temple Street

Toyota Ireland is proud to announce it has donated a state-of-the-art microscope to Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The microscope, worth €18,000, will be used to provide diagnoses and investigate illnesses such as meningitis, urinary tract infections, respiratory infections and other bacterial infections among children. The new microscope, which will be used in the Microbiology Department, will be instrumental in processing patient samples from A&E around the clock and allows for important consultation between laboratory and medical staff. It will also help facilitate vital staff training, making a significant positive impact on the services provided by microbiology.

Horses for courses at this year’s Galway International Rally

This year's Corrib Oil Galway International Rally, which takes place from Feburary 5 to 7, will head to Ballybrit for the first time in its 45 years.

Rally organisers, the Galway Motor Club, will use the race course to host the mechanical scrutineering on Friday February 5, providing spectators with the perfect opportunity to get up close to the cars and drivers prior to the high-speed action on Saturday and Sunday.

New car registrations up twenty eight per cent

New car registrations were up 28 per cent (2,571) last month when compared to October 2014 (2,011). New car registrations for the year are currently up 30 per cent (123,670) on the same period last year. Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) were down 13 per cent (1,206) on October 2014 (1,392), but year to date are up 43 per cent (22,848).

Fake NCT certificate on the increase here

The number of fake NCT certificates in circulation on Irish roads is on the increase. With sources saying that scam artists can take a car that is only worth €300 and then re-sell it for up to €1,200, it is hardly surprising fake certs are on the rise.

My Vehicle has spoken to a source who claims a fake NCT cert can be bought for as little as €50. The source, who cannot be named, sells fake NCTs and claims the demand for the certs usually hit around several a week.
