International launch for SsangYong Tivoli XLV

SsangYong Motor Company has launched its new SsangYong XLV.

The carmaker says the XLV comes from “exciting smart lifestyle vehicle”, reflecting the purpose of the car, designed as a multi-role SUV, and its additional length extends the interior boot space to make it even more practical for family use.

Mr Choi, CEO of SsangYong Motors told the international press at launch that the Tivoli had been the company's most successful new car.

“Following rapid growth in the compact SUV market, we responded in 2015 by launching Tivoli, the first small SUV for SsangYong, and already the company’s most successful new car. About 64,000 cars were manufactured and sold around the world last year.”

Sharing the same platform with the Tivoli, the Tivoli XLV features a lengthened body from behind the C pillar, an increase of 238mm over the standard car. SsangYong says this expands the load capacity to a large 720 cubic litres of space, while the generous cabin provides space for five tall adults to travel with excellent leg, shoulder and head room.

The e-XDi160 Euro 6 diesel engine produces 115ps/3,400 – 4,000rpm maximum power with 300Nm/1,500 to 2,500rpm, and with its fifth generation E-VGT turbocharger delivers a smooth, progressive and powerful driving experience.

The 1.6 litre diesel engine achieves a CO2 emission level of just 117g/km (two-wheel drive, manual transmission with stop/start ). Two transmissions are offered: a six-speed manual transmission and an Aisin 6-speed automatic.

Passenger safety has been a top priority for the car, and comes with seven airbags including front, side and curtain airbags plus a driver’s knee airbag, multi-function electronic stability programme, active rollover protection, brake assist, hill start assist and emergency stop signal, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a warning reminder on all five seat belt positions. LED daytime running lights and projection headlights are standard, and 25 Watt HID (High Intensity Discharge ) lights are also available.

The SsangYong DNA is all about 4×4, and the Tivoli XLV reflects this philosophy by being available with an intelligent 4WD system. The electronically controlled on-demand system distributes power to front and rear drive shafts, and automatically adjusts to the road surface and driving conditions to optimise performance. The Tivoli XVL 4×4 features multi-link rear suspension for a comfortable drive on the road, and increased wheel articulation for optimum grip off-road.

Joe Harris, MD of SsangYong Motors Ireland, is happy “the style from the Tivoli is maintained”, including its harmoniously fused SUV body design, sports coupé look and floating roofline. He adds: “By doing this, SsangYong is creating a multi-role, multi-function solution to a wide range of customers with the versatility to meet the needs of individual lifestyles.”
