GET UP, Stand up, the weekly stand up comedy open mic night at Garvey’s Hotel and Bar, Eyre Square, takes place tonight from 9.30pm.
The show is open to the public and comedians, and admission is free. Every week there is a lively crowd and a load of up and coming comedians performing. Each comedian is allowed seven to eight minutes for his/her set. There will also be a comedy caption contest with the winner getting a prize at the end of the show.

BOOK COLLECTORS tend to be strange animals who will resort to any device in order to acquire their prey.
We once had a customer whose wife did not share his book collecting passion. In order to satisfy his grinding need we had to send his packages to his bird seed man so he could sneak his new acquisitions into the house undetected.

BICYCLES WITH Umbrellas, is a new professionally produced anthology showcasing poetry, fiction, and memoir by students who completed the MA in writing at NUI Galway in 2010.
The book was edited by the students themselves and they also had to raise the money to publish it and then organise a programme of launches around the country to promote the publication - no small task.

NUI GALWAY’S Dramsoc perform Tom Murphy’s The Morning After Optimism in the Druid Lane Theatre tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday at 8pm.
The Morning After Optimism centres on James and Rosie and focuses on the notions of opposites, sinners and saints. Murphy places them in a surreal forest, as a means of exploring these contrasts and assessing whether they can survive in the one space.
