Social Entrepreneurs Ireland has launched their nationwide search for people with innovative ideas and new solutions to solve some of Ireland’s biggest social and environmental problems. The 2015 Awards programme, sponsored by DCC plc, invites applications from Ireland’s brightest and most ambitious entrepreneurs with game changing ideas to solve the social problems facing Ireland.
The annual competition, now in its eleventh year, has backed 179 social entrepreneurs to date and invested €5.82 million in direct funding to projects in areas ranging from community and active citizenship, education and learning, environment and sustainability and mental and physical health. In the last 12 months, social entrepreneurs supported by Social Entrepreneurs Ireland have directly impacted 44,959 people.

Bowles has more than 25 years in the semiconductor, wireless, and kiosk industries and has been involved in the formation and funding of six tech startups for which he has raised 17 rounds of VC financing totalling nearly $250M, with some nice financial exits for these investors in the process. Prior to ecoATM, Bowles was VP marketing and business development with Vativ (sold to Entropic). Prior to that, Bowles co-founded Staccato in 2002 and was VP marketing and business development.

Galway Technology Centre has announced the completion of the first phase of a €360K investment in its 50,000sq. ft. facility in the IDA Business Park in Mervue, Galway.
The investment programme will be carried out over three years and includes refurbishment of meeting rooms and public areas, installation of new air conditioning systems, lifts and fire alarms, and upgrading of its telecommunications infrastructure.

Q. One from left of field. I recently went to a career training company (not you, sorry!) and they did an excellent job at getting me ready for interview. The interview is on next week. I am thinking about making it clear to the interview panel that I had received professional training and support in preparation for the interview. My reasoning is to illustrate that I’m the kind of person who does what needs to be done to execute a project. What would your thoughts be? Should I ‘fess up or keep it secret? (DR email)
A. Funny you should bring this point up now DR because I have had two recent experiences with clients who did the very thing that you have mentioned. One let it be known at an interview that the brochure he had produced to promote his own candidature (he’s a salesman) was not all his own work but that he had received assistance from a copywriter and designer to make it happen.
