One million euro Lightnet investment creates new jobs for Loughrea

Loughrea received a jobs boost with the recent news that Lightnet, a broadband supplier to Galway and Clare is to create seven posts as part of a one million euro investment into its network.

The investment programme will be carried out in 2015, with phase one beginning this week with the implementation of a new network platform allowing residential and business users avail of higher bandwidth capacity in the Kilcreest, Peterswell, Craughwell, Ardrahan, and Loughrea areas.

The further phases of the investment programme will see Oughterard and Moycullen areas implemented shortly after, with the Connemara region and other areas also being rolled out in 2015.

This new platform brings with it new opportunities for the company and also for new and existing customers, who can avail of increased speed packages.

Managing director Enda Broderick says the demand for high capacity connections for home entertainment is constantly increasing.

“We believe we have found the platform to provide this for the foreseeable future. Customers don’t want to be tied into complicated deals with phone packages and unwanted TV services anymore, they can use VoIP phone services at a fraction of the price and many are turning to Netflix type content to watch at a time they want it without the ads.

“We offer a simple solution without the necessity to commit to all these extras,” said Mr Broderick.

The investment has also led to the creation of seven new jobs in the company 2015, with four jobs coming online immediately, with remaining positions to follow.

Lightnet started in 2006 and has grown this coverage area to meet demand and now employs over 20 people based in its headquarters in Loughrea.
