A three year moratorium on the issuing of taxiplates is being sought by Libertas candidate Declan Ganley. The European election candidate for the North West constituency has written to the Minister for Transport to immediately seek a moratorium.

The owner of a city centre adult store has been fined a total of €1,500 for having pornographic DVDs available for sale to the public which did not have a supply certificate or proper labelling.
Michael Bridgeman (47) with an address at Glenview, Ballyneety, Limerick, was summoned to appear at Galway District Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to having video recordings at Underworld, 20 Upper Dominick Street, which did not comply with sections 5, 6, and 12 of the Video Recording Act 1989.

A man who threatened to “sort out” his elderly neighbours following a noise complaint, and spat at a garda on another occasion after roaring abuse, was sentenced to a total of 10 months in jail at Galway District Court yesterday.
Donal Burke (41) with an address at 68 Gleann Rua, Lurgan Park, Renmore, pleaded guilty to a number of public order offences, obstruction of a garda, trespass, and failing to leave a building in a peaceable and orderly manner on various dates.

As we near the crucial day, the people of Galway have a decision to make. Do they continue to support the old established parties or do they on this occasion have faith in the Independent community candidates?
The feeling on the canvass is that Fianna Fáil are struggling and that the other established parties are making gains, but do the people of Galway want a continuance of the last five years of disruptive meetings, caused by a minority of the councillors?
