One of Galway's oldest family businesses and one of Ireland's most established travel companies, Fahy Travel was founded initially as a shipping company by Kate Fahy in the 1880s.

Widowed at a young age, Kate was one of the first female entrepreneurs of her time, establishing her shipping company on Bridge St more than a century and a half ago. Predating commercial aviation, Kate's shipping company aided the emigration journey for numerous Galwegians, even helping locals and native Irish speakers to navigate the then US emigration application process. As a result, a number of Galwegians left Ireland for life, travelling to the US by sea in search of their American dream.
