Thu, Oct 30, 2008

In the first game played under Mervue's new floodlighting system at Fahy’s field, it was the home side that took the game to their more illustrious opponents GalwayUnited in the Eircom u-20 League.

There was more success for Galway athletes when 44-years-old heart transplant recipient, Ernesto Antonio, broke his own personal and best known world record for a heart transplant recipient in Monday’s Dublin City Marathon. Breaking his previous time by eight minutes Ernesto completed the marathon in three hours 45 minutes. This week he also celebrated the ninth anniversary of his heart transplant which took place at the Mater Hospital. However there was disappointment for Galway hurler Alan Kerins, who was running for his own charity, Alan Kerins African Project.
