Colga FC boys’ u-12 team has won the coveted Connacht Cup after overcoming Manor Rangers in Manorhamilton at the weekend by a deserved 3- 0.
From the start Colga got a grip on midfield and pressed forward continuously, and but for some great goal keeping and the woodwork, they could well have been ahead by more than one goal at the break.
The goal came midway through the first half when a break from midfield found Ryan Ellis on the wing, who cut in and volleyed a shot which was parried by the goalie. Conor Armstrong was on hand to again shoot, but again it was parried excellently by the keeper. However it was a case of third time lucky as Armstrong volleyed the rebound from an acute angle to score an excellent goal.
The second half started with Colga continuing to hold the ascendency and Manor conceded a second early on through an own-goal.
Colga went on to hit the posts a couple of more times before Conor Armstrong got his second with another great shot.
This was a great team performance by Colga, led from the back by Brian Tarpy in goal with Cillian Moran, Stephen Whelan, Calum Mc Cardle, and Conor Cosgrave giving no quarter in the back line.
In midfield Jack Mullins, Conor Tarpy, David Maloney and Tadgh Geoghegan worked hard, while up front Ryan Ellis and Conor Armstrong were excellent. They were helped by the subs Rory Mc Cardle and Darragh Greaney.
