•Corinthians claimed the scalp of city rivals Galwegians by 15 - 0 in the battle for a play-off place in AIL u-20 division one league. In appalling conditions, both sides served up an enthralling contest which saw Corinthians move up into joint third place in a league currently led by fellow Connacht outfit Buccaneers. Unsurprisingly, it became a battle up front, and Corinthians, with the wind, dominated territory for the first half. Prop Fiachra Tierney was unlucky when stopped just short due to the excellent Wegians pack, led by Greg Leader. Scoreless at the break, Galwegians looked the more likely to win, but Corinthians played outstanding rugby to dominate the second half and score three tries. Johnny Kearney touched down for the first try. When Shane Conneely broke on the blind, he fed Kevin Russell who dived over in the corner. Galwegians fought back, but with time running out scrumhalf Peter Walsh sold an outrageous dummy from broken play to score the third. Corinthians now meet Cork Constitution in Temple Hill on Saturday.

Like many other sports fans I am a big admirer of much of the material produced in the RTE sports department on both TV and radio.
Programmes on television like The Sunday Game, The Premiership, coverage of the rugby championship, the Olympics, World Cups and the like, are usually professionally done and provide considerable quality entertainment.

One of the most famous clubs in Galway, Skehana, face John Mitchells (Warwickshire) this Saturday in Ballinasloe at 2.30pm in the AIB GAA All-Ireland Hurling Junior Club Championship quarter-final.
I remember playing Skehana as a young fellow with the Sylane hurling u-16s and minors. They were hardy men then and still are, and I cannot see John Mitchells having the wherewithal to keep them from reaching the All-Ireland semi-final.
