Galway Lawn Tennis Club holds a table quiz on Monday March 8 at 8 pm. It is a fundraiser for two members of the club, Jenny Burrows and Jonathan Klampe, who have been selected to represent Ireland at the ITF World Senior Tennis Team Championships in Mexico from March 26 to April 4. Burrows and Klampe are coaches at GLTC, who also work with Connacht’s development squads. Tables of four are €40 each with prizes for the winners, spot prizes, and a raffle.

Last Sunday morning fog and frost covered Salthill’s home pitch where they took on St Michael’s in an eagerly-awaited first round of the county u-21 championship.

However the elements most definitely did not impact on Salthill as they made a blistering start with a well-taken goal by young Gearoid Armstrong after only 30 seconds, and from there to the finish John Ruane’s team was chasing the game.

•Galway-born golfer Alison Walshe, who recently decided to represent Ireland, has received a grant from the Team Ireland Golf Trust. Walshe, who was born in Galway but grew up in Massachesetts after her family emigrated when she was four, was one of four golfers who received of €20,000 from grants totaling €217,000 for 17 aspiring golfers. Walshe (24) recently declared she would represent Ireland in the Solheim Cup - women's golf version of the Ryder Cup.
