Local TD Paul Connaughton said the parish of Mountbellew together with thousands of past pupils all over Ireland cannot come to terms with the Teagasc decision to close Mountbellew Agriculture College, a college with a proud tradition for more than 100 years.

An unemployed Tynagh man, accused of drug dealing and being in possession of cannabis worth an estimated €1 million, has been remanded in custody and is due to stand trial in January.

Forty-three-year-old Vincent Glynn with an address at Limehill, Tynagh, appeared before Galway District Court last Monday where Detective Garda Shaun Durkan gave evidence that the book of evidence had been served on the accused in relation to a total of six charges.

Galway Chamber demands reduction in car park charges

All car parks in Galway city should introduce half price parking from 12 noon each weekday from now until the New Year, according to the Galway Chamber.

The chamber is calling on the Galway City Council and private car park owners to reduce parking charges in the run up to Christmas, in line with action taken by other cities. Chamber president Paul Shelly said that by reducing car parking charges, the Galway City Council can make a real commitment to jobs in Galway.’
