Shops robbed at knifepoint

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following an incident in which two men armed with a knife robbed a shop in Newcastle at the weekend.

The pair entered Laurel Park Stores on Saturday, produced a knife, and demanded money from the shop assistant.

One of the thieves is described as six feet one inch tall, of stocky build, and he wore a blue jacket, dark gloves, and blue jeans. The second man was about five feet six inches tall and he wore a dark bomber jacket and dark jeans. Both men wore balaclavas.

The Newcastle incident was the second knifepoint robbery to occur in the city in recent days. One man produced a knife and demanded money at Maher’s shop on Fr Griffin Road on Tuesday January 19. He left empty handed. He was described as about five feet 10 inches tall, of slim build, and he wore a blue hoody and black tracksuit bottoms.
