Bilingual lunchtime summer concert series

A NEW series of lunchtime concerts at An Taibhdhearc, entitled CAN, and featuring songs from the west of Ireland, sung as Gaeilge agus as Bearla, starts on Wednesday June 6.

Deirbhile Ní Bhrolcain will present with guest singers including Aine Sheridan (harp and vocals), Anne Kirrane (vocals and concertina), and Steve Johnston (vocals/guitar). There will be sean nós singing, and poems by Raftery and Yeats put to music, and an opportunity for the audience to participate and learn songs if they wish.

This was recently reiterated by 200 Irish lawyers, including three former High Court judges – two of whom formerly chaired the Referendum Commission, with the other being a former Judge of the European Court of Justice. All of them signed a statement opposing the removal of all constitutional rights from the unborn.

MADRA unveils new mascot ahead of this weekend’s Dogathon 2018

MADRA’s new mascot was unveiled to the public this week on the Salthill prom, in time for the dog charity’s 2018 ‘Paws on the Prom’ Dogathon, which takes place this Sunday at 1pm.

The mascot, who has yet to be named, will lead the way on Sunday, when more than 1,000 paws are expected to trot along the prom. The event begins at the Claddagh Hall with registration from 11am. Registration is €10 (adult), €5 (child), or €25 (family - two adults and two children). All money raised will go to the Connemara-based dog rescue and adoption charity.
