Psychiatric services inadequate, says local TD

Patients in need of psychiatric treatment are walking out of the emergency department of University Hospital Galway because of the overcrowding problem at the facility, according to a local TD.
"It is clear the existing service is at crisis point," insists Deputy Catherine Connolly. "This is necessitating ongoing visits by the Mental Health Commission who have repeatedly highlighted the inadequacies of the service."

Four young Galway rowers have been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming Coupe de la Jeunesse, which will be hosted by Ireland this year.
Caoileann Nic Dhonncha and Elise Carney of Colaiste Iognaid, and Michael Daly and Matthew Gallagher of St Joseph’s RC, join 28 rowers from Dublin, Wicklow, Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Wexford, Fermanagh and Derry at the annual international rowing regatta for rowers 18 years or under.

Hence this week the principle of scarcity is to the fore in Ireland - a product of abundance, one we utilise, not cherish; take for granted, not appreciate, is now taking control of our lives. Yes, we are talking about water and the lack of it.
On this occasion it is not about the changes/charges proposed by Irish Water not so long ago, yet, the heart of the issue remains the same. In a country that is pluvial, the infrastructure to retain it is simply inadequate, and in little more than a month, the country is running low on water, affecting the way we live, our food crops, farm animals, our industry. It is becoming an increasingly pressing issue.
