Psychiatric services inadequate, says local TD

Patients in need of psychiatric treatment are walking out of the emergency department of University Hospital Galway because of the overcrowding problem at the facility, according to a local TD.

"It is clear the existing service is at crisis point," insists Deputy Catherine Connolly. "This is necessitating ongoing visits by the Mental Health Commission who have repeatedly highlighted the inadequacies of the service."

Galway four in rowing squads

Four young Galway rowers have been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming Coupe de la Jeunesse, which will be hosted by Ireland this year.

Caoileann Nic Dhonncha and Elise Carney of Colaiste Iognaid, and Michael Daly and Matthew Gallagher of St Joseph’s RC, join 28 rowers from Dublin, Wicklow, Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Wexford, Fermanagh and Derry at the annual international rowing regatta for rowers 18 years or under.

Senator Frances Black, along with Palestinian Ambassador, Ahmad Abdelrazek, was in Kinvara recently to discuss how citizens and communities can contribute to securing justice and peace for Palestine. While there, Sen Black was presented with the petition of support.
