Thousands expected at Galway International Food and Craft Festival

Celebrity chefs Neven Maguire, Rachel Allen, and Kevin Dundon will be among the special guests at this year's Galway International Food and Craft Festival, which takes place in Salthill Park from July 5 to 7.

Organisers are expecting 30,000 people at the event, which will also feature 200 vendors in both the indoor and outdoor food and craft villages. There will be displays from boutique brands, independent brewers, and indigenous crafts. There will also be live cooking demonstrations, health and wellbeing presentations, entertainment stage, a children’s area, and a lunge and chill-out area.

University Hospital Galway spent €3.5 million hiring private ambulances since 2011

"A colossal waste of money" is how city councillor Máiréad Farrell has described Galway University Hospital's decision to spend €3.5 million in the past eight years on hiring private ambulances. She said the money should have been used instead to buy new ambulances for the Galway hospitals (University College and Merlin Park).

Cllr Farrell said the outsourcing of ambulance services by the HSE to private companies is further evidence of Fine Gael's drive towards the privatisation of the health services.
