Training for women with an interest in politics starting next week

Women for Election, the non-partisan, independent organisation that has trained women to stand for election since 2012, is calling on women across Galway to sign up for its next INSPIRE Campaign School, which starts on-line on Wednesday, September 29.

Currently 37 of 160 TDs are women. Across the two constituencies in Galway there were nine Dáil seats available and four women were elected, one in Galway East and three in Galway West.

Ireland needs social housing, student housing, and fair rents

In late July, there were 234 adults accessing emergency accommodation in Galway, with 66 families, including 165 child dependents, counted in the West region, compared to 225 adults and 154 dependents (including adult dependents) a month earlier.

Galway Simon Community Detox Project — finding the window of opportunity

Minister Frank Feighan met with staff of Galway Simon Community recently to learn about the impact of a project working with people who have addictions to “Benzos”. The Community Detox Project established in 2019 has worked with 40 people to help them to reduce their drug use safely. He also met with GPs, and HSE staff who explained the difference this project had made to people seeking help.

Appeal for witnesses after fatal road collision

Gardaí in Galway are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a motor cyclist that occurred at approximately 10.10am on Sunday September 12 at the junction of the Old Dublin Road and Renmore Park.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the collision to come forward. Gardaí are further appealing to any road users who were travelling along the Old Dublin Road shortly after 10am on Sunday morning and may have camera and/or dash-cam footage to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
