The name was chosen following an independent process of engagement by marketing and brand consultant company McCann (Dublin) who conducted surveys and online consultation with staff, students and stakeholders across the region and nationally.

Galway’s new marine research vessel makes its first splash

Last weekend, the hull of Ireland’s new state-of-the-art marine research vessel, RV Tom Crean, was launched at Astilleros Armon shipyard in Vigo, Spain. The vessel will operate out of Galway upon its completion later next year.

The launch of the hull is a significant milestone in the build process, with the vessel on schedule to be completed in summer 2022. The build of the RV Tom Crean received funding of €25 million from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, as approved by the Government of Ireland.

The chapel at University Hospital will be restored to its original size next year after its reduction to accommodate safe waiting areas is no longer needed, the Regional Health Forum was told this week.

The matter had been raised by Galway Green Party councillor Martina O'Connor who told the forum that there has been concern raised that space currently allocated to the chapel at UHG had recently been reduced and that there may be plans to reduce it further.
