The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) are this week warning consumers of the risks of unsafe GAA helmets. The warning comes as the CCPC publish guidance for consumers highlighting the key safety tips to be aware of when buying a GAA helmet.
Pat Kenny, Member of the CCPC Commission, said they are delighted to partner with the GAA to raise awareness of the risks of unsafe GAA helmets.

A public meeting marking the tenth anniversary of the death of Savita Halappanavar will be held upstairs in Richardsons Bar, Eyre Square on Monday 25 at 7pm.
The meeting is being organised by the Galway branch of the Socialist Party and Socialist Feminist group ROSA. The tragic death of Savita here in University Hospital Galway was the catalyst for the abortion rights campaign that succeeded in repealing the Eighth Amendment that had restricted rights to abortion and bodily atonomy up until the point.

The original Galway City Bypass was a road project only. The Galway City Ring Road – GCRR - is part of an integrated solution to our traffic woes, the Galway Transportation Strategy. The strategy has the support of the elected members of the City and County Councils. It involves the GCRR but also improved public transport, cycling and walking infrastructure, and is evident in the Crosslinks project, which has gone to planning, and the new bridge alongside the Salmon Weir.
More is planned and more is needed, including the continuation of the Connemara Greenway from Moycullen to the city, funding for which has been granted for a replacement cycling/pedestrian bridge over the railway viaducts.

Ballybrit native, Grace Kennedy, who has raised over €70,000 and found homes for over 5,000 displaced Ukrainians fleeing the war, has called for an urgent fundraising appeal for a makeshift orphanage in Bucha.
Kennedy, a law tutor for the University of Galway, appeared on an RTÉ documentary titled, The War at Home, which focused on the courageous and generous exploits of Irish people in aiding Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war.

While, he himself was a fascinating subject, my interest was not so much in his character, but in the environment in which Galway business was swimming at the time.

Galway West TD Noel Grealish has welcomed confirmation from An Taoiseach that regulations are being drawn up to allow CCTV footage be used to identify and prosecute illegal dumpers.
The Independent TD raised the issue with Micheál Martin in the Dáil, saying the blight of illegal dumping continued to be a major problem across the country, costing local authorities millions of euro to clean up each year.
