Locals are being urged to come out in force tomorrow Friday June 23 to support a 50-strong group of cycling enthusiasts who are gearing up to take off from Galway as part of a cycling challenge in aid of COPD Support Ireland. The “Get Breathless for COPD” charity cycle from Galway to Dublin, which is supported by A. Menarini and led by legendary cycling champion Seán Kelly, will see the riders get up close and personal with the people and the places of Galway city and county like never before.
COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is perhaps better known as bronchitis or emphysema, and is where the airways of the lungs are narrower than normal, leading to airflow obstruction and difficulty breathing. It is the fourth most common cause of death in Ireland after heart disease, lung cancer and stroke.

Proposals for new speed limits on national primary and secondary roads, and regional and local roads, in County Galway, are available for public consultation. Cllr Jim Cuddy is calling on people to make their views known.
Following a long campaign, the Galway County Council has begun a review of speed limits on county roads. The proposals are going out for public consultation and the Garda and Transport Infrastructure Ireland will also be consulted.

Last night, the stretch of the light pushing back the darkness eased up a little on the pressure. Proud at itself for stretching out the day for as long as it could, it stalled and said, ok, this is as far as I’m going to get this year. I’ve pushed the light as much as I can. I’ve thrown illumination on the land for as much of the day but now I’m weary, and I must give in to the inevitable and start to concede light and ground.
