Greenway for a Day

Next Sunday June 25 in Tuam at 2pm there will be a novel public event where supporters for the development of a Greenway for Tuam, Athenry and Milltown in association with the Tuam Tidy Towns Group, will hold a “Greenway for a Day” event.

This short event will consist of a walk from Tuam Railway Station along Athenry Road and then across Glass Avenue which is a lovely secluded, kilometre long traffic free walk over to Dublin Road and then onto Tuam Stars Complex for a get together with music and some refreshments and snacks provided by local restaurants and shops.

It is only a small replication of what the public could enjoy with a Greenway.

This is an opportunity for the public to display to their local councillors and TD who oppose this, that they support the development of a Greenway now which will also preserve the old rail alignment.

It will show that if in generations to come a railway is needed that both can be accommodated, as is common all over Europe and the UK, as there is room for both.

Everybody from the Tuam and Athenry area and all in between are invited as this would provide a wonderful safe public amenity for all and also boost our whole area economically. This matter will be voted on in Galway County Council again in September 2017.
