New ED to provide more capacity and privacy

University Hospital Galway’s new temporary emergency department, which will be completed shortly, will provide additional capacity and privacy for patients.

The facility will be able to cater for 43 patients, compared to 34 previously, in single, closed cubicles. Extra resuscitation bays will also be provided. These new additions will offer greater dignity and privacy to patients.

Rising fuel prices are crippling the Irish Seafood sector, including fishermen, aquaculture producers and fish processors. That’s according to Galway-based Enda Conneely of the Irish Islands Marine Resource Organisation (IIMRO), who says the crisis is a threat to food security.

“The entire Irish Seafood Sector is calling on the Government to act now to claim available EU funds to compensate the seafood sector and get the situation under control,” he told the Advertiser.

New offshore wind energy hub at Ros a’ Mhíl could create 900 jobs

Dep Éamon Ó Cuív has welcomed the announcement that an international engineering firm, Atkins, has won a contract following a tender process to develop a masterplan for an offshore wind energy hub on Údaras na Gaeltachta-owned lands in Ros a’ Mhíl.

The hub, according to an Údarás-commissioned feasibility study, could support up to 900 jobs in the Connemara Gaeltacht, serving multiple floating and fixed wind farms off the west coast.
