Stitches Alterations on Eyre Street has just moved to a fabulous new shop just across the road in the former Yourells Hair Salon.
Chris Roche from Moycullen, owner of Stitches since 2020, said Stitches is the longest running alterations business in Galway having first opened its doors in 1980 on Francis Street. Stitches moved to No 4 Eyre Street 22 years ago. Chris took over Stitches in its 40th year and the business has grown steadily since, now with a staff of six despite having to close during two lockdowns.
Chris saw an opportunity to grow the business when the former Yourells Hair Salon became vacant across the road at No 23-25 Eyre Street. Chris has a family history in the clothing trade and has an excellent team of seamstresses in Stitches with many years of experience between them.
Feeling encouraged by staff and customers to expand the business, Chris decided to move shop. On Monday last the brand new store opened beside Dunnes on Eyre Street. Stitches Alterations and Haberdashery is now a one-stop shop where customers can come for all types of alterations from basic repairs to the more formal bridal gowns and evening wear. They can also purchase from a wide variety of fabric, wool and haberdashery items.
Stitches also offers a dry cleaning and laundry service being a drop off and collection point for Shannon Dry Cleaners. The newly opened Stitches Alterations and Haberdashery store is a much bigger and brighter space with lovely big changing rooms that can cater for the biggest bridal gown, wheelchair and buggy.
Chris said she is delighted with the anumber of positive comments, well wishes and encouragement she has received from customers and the general public since opening.
