An alarming 56 per cent of drivers in Ireland are driving with dangerous or very dangerously under-inflated tyres, according to the results of Michelin’s 2009 Fill Up With Air campaign.

Tyres are classified as dangerous if between 8 – 14psi under-inflated and very dangerous if more than14psi under-inflated.

Kia Motors Ireland has announced significant price reductions for the Picanto, Rio and cee’d models. Picanto has been reduced by €1850, Rio by €1500, and cee’d models by €2000.

“In the current climate it is obvious that price reductions is what is driving consumer behaviour in all product purchasing decisions and the purchase of motor cars is no different” commented Kia Motors Ireland’s managing director James Brooks. “Such price adjustments need to be significant to meet consumer demands and we are responding accordingly and will continue to offer quality product at affordable prices.”

New car scrappage scheme unveiled

The Irish motor industry has received a shot in the arm with a new scrappage scheme on cars 10 years or older.

Announced in the Budget, the scheme will allow motorists who trade in their 10-year-old cars or older for a new car in the VRT bands A and B (ie with CO2 emissions of 140g/km or less), receive tax relief of up to €1,500 in accordance with certain criteria.
