New Honda 1.6 diesel engine confirmed

Honda Motor Company has developed a new generation of engines called ‘Earth Dreams Technology’. This new engine series will deliver excellent performance and environmental values and will be gradually introduced throughout the Honda range.

The first engine from this series for Europe will be a newly developed 1.6 diesel engine. Designed for the European market, this new smaller diesel engine will first be mounted on Honda’s new Civic. It is expected the new diesel version will be launched in late 2012.

New Volkswagen CC set for March launch

From launch, the Irish engine range for the new Volkswagen CC (formerly called the Passat CC) will comprise powerful and efficient 2.0-litre TDI 140bhp or 170bhp common rail diesels, both in tax band B. Both engines are available optionally with six speed manual or seven speed auto DSG.

All derivatives will have Blue Motion Technologies as standard. The 170bhp now has a standard XDS differential, an electronic cross-axle traction control system for improved traction and handling.

Seat is feeling electric about the future

Spanish carmaker Seat, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, tells us it is working on its first electric car designed, developed, and manufactured in Spain. And, as well as unveiling the prototype Altea XL Electric Ecomotive, an electrically-driven zero-emissions car, the Spanish manufacturer also presented the prototype Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive, a plug-in hybrid.

Over the next few months Seat will make available units of both models to governmental institutions in Spain for use in their vehicle fleets. This will provide Seat with valuable feedback information on use of the cars for assessment with a view to mass production of electric vehicles in the medium-term.
