October sees Shannon’s ‘summer season’ go out on a high

Shannon Airport’s strong momentum across 2014 has continued into the final month of the autumn, with passenger numbers for October showing a 28 per cent increase on the same period twelve months ago.
The biggest gains in passengers through the terminal were again on European services, with eight continental services among the nine attractive new routes launched for the summer season (April through to end of October), the ninth a new Bristol service. This resulted in a 111 per cent increase (from 20,347 to 42,950) in passengers to and from the continent last month compared to October 2013.

Businesses planning to enter the SCCUL Enterprise awards are being urged to submit their entries as soon as possible. The deadline for entries to the innovative awards programme which celebrates entrepreneurship and rewards local enterprise is 5.30pm on Monday November 3.
Launched last month, the competition is already attracting a strong level of interest from businesses intent on claiming the €10,000 cash top prize. This year organisers have developed a new web interface to facilitate easy of entry for awards applicants.

Q: Some time ago, I was invited to do some work that relates to my hobby. It involved short pieces work on an on-going basis, and one particularly intense bout that required me to take annual leave. So I’ve made a big commitment to this new role – and, to my surprise, I haven’t been paid. I understood there was a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that I would get paid, but nothing has been forthcoming. As it happens, I am not overly concerned about the money, but I think it would represent some measure of appreciation for what I do. My friends think I’m mad, but I’m wondering if I should continue to do it because the work relates to my hobby and helps me build up good contacts. Any thoughts? (NP, email).
