Free talk on reducing risk of further heart event

Taking Control of Heart Disease is the title of a free public talk being give at the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa at 6.30pm on Monday.

It is aimed specifically at those who have had recent heart events, including stenting, bypass, and valve surgery or for those with known heart disease, including heart failure and stable angina.

The talk will help people understand their condition, provide advice on exercising with heart disease, and will explain and describe a cardio protective diet to ensure a healthy life.

Following a new diagnosis of heart disease or after a recent cardiac event, people are often left confused and may have lost their confidence and/or be struggling to get back to work or their daily activities.

When they are discharged from hospital it is difficult to know where to turn to for up-to-date evidence based advice, guidance, and information on their condition.

Reducing your cardiovascular risk and thus reducing the risk of a future heart attack or stroke is imperative after an event.

Croí heart and stroke foundation in collaboration with the cardiology department at University Hospital Galway is keen to help people reduce their cardiovascular risk factors and inevitably cut their overall risk for further events, including heart attack and stroke.

Consultant cardiologist Dr Crowley said it was very important to understand risk factors and engage in behavioural changes to help you live a healthy lifestyle which will decrease your future cardiovascular risk.

This talk is being led by Dr Crowley and will feature input from the multidisciplinary team at Croí including Denise Dunne, a specialist cardiac physiotherapist, and Suzanne Seery, a senior dietitian.

The information can help and assist people:
