McDonagh demands traffic calming measures for Shantalla

The volume and speed of traffic on Shantalla Road means the area is “an accident waiting to happen”, according to Labour candidate John McDonagh.

Mr McDonagh, who is standing in Galway City Central, pointed out how there are three crèches/playschools, a primary school, a nursing home, and the side entrance for St Mary’s College on this roadway, which has a large volume of traffic between these facilities and as a route to and from the city centre.

According to Mr McDonagh, cars and motorcycles monitored on this stretch of road, have been travelling at speeds between 100 and 140kms per hour.

“This is extremely dangerous,” he said. “The Galway City Council must take appropriate measures to reduce speeds before a serious accident occurs.”
