“ONE OF the best saxophonists on the planet,” is how The Guardian has described American jazz musician Chris Potter who plays Galway this weekend.
Chris Potter’s Underground - which features Potter, Adam Rogers (guitar ), and Craig Taborn (Fender Rhodes ) - play the Radisson Live Lounge this Sunday at 7pm as part of the Galway Jazz Festival.
Potter, who has played with the great Steely Dan, is renowned for his scalding, funky, grooves and outrageous twists in rhythmic gravity and he defies the notion that cutting edge jazz is incompatible with a good night out.
As The Irish Times said: “Begin at full tilt and keep on going from there. And they did, with a brilliant outpouring of invention and skill that held a capacity audience enthralled throughout the night.”
Support is from Irish group RedivideR - Matt Jacobson (drums ), Nick Roth (alto saxophonist ), Colm O’Hara (trombonist ), and Derek Whyte (bass ) - who are influenced by such diverse musicians as Charles Mingus and Squarepusher.
