Corpus Christi Procession in Galway
A procession for the feast of Corpus Christi will take place after the 3pm traditional Latin Mass at St Mary’s College Chapel, Galway.
The traditional Mass has been offered regularly in Galway by the canons of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest since 2009, and on Sunday some of the sisters from the Institute’s female branch, the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus, will visit Galway to sing at the Mass. The Sisters Adorers have had a presence in Ireland since 2021 when they acquired the former Convent of Mercy in Ardee, Co. Louth. In recent years, both the male and female branches have received a number of young Irish vocations.
All are welcome to attend the sung Mass on Sunday, which will be immediately followed by the Corpus Christi procession, concluding with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Josie Forde calls for
the development of
all-weather community pitches
Fianna Fáil candidate in the upcoming local elections Josie Forde, has emphasised the pressing need for resources and facilities for young people in Galway city and the surrounding areas.
Highlighting the significant gap in available services, Forde, who is running in the Galway City Central Local Electoral Area, called for the development of urban municipal all-weather community pitches and the utilisation of school buildings after hours to better serve the community.
Forde stated; “Our young people deserve access to safe, high-quality recreational facilities year-round. Currently, there is a glaring lack of such resources in our communities. By investing in all-weather pitches, we can provide a reliable space for sports and physical activities, regardless of the season or weather conditions.”
In addition to the call for new pitches, Josie Forde emphasised the importance of maximising existing community assets; “Many of our school buildings, including their halls, sports fields, and gyms remain unused after hours.
“We have a great opportunity to open these facilities to the community, ensuring that our young people have access to the spaces they need without the need for significant new construction.
“By implementing these initiatives, we can address the immediate needs of our young people while making efficient use of our existing infrastructure.
“This is a practical, cost-effective solution that will have a lasting impact on our communities.”
