Melancholy music from a Spanish trio

The acclaimed Trio Rodin to play Galway city's PorterShed

THE MUSIC of Mozart, Pärt, Malats, and Dvorak, will be heard in the city next week, when Spain's Trio Rodin play a Music for Galway concert at the PorterShed, Eyre Square.

Trio Rodin will perform Mozart's Piano Trio K 442 in which he makes rare use of the melancholy key of Dm; Arvo Pärt's 'Mozart-Adagio', which expresses longing for order and simplicity in the world and nostalgia for the great music masters of the distant past; Spanish composer Joaquin Malat's Piano Trio in Bb, which was dedicated to his friend Camille Saint-Saëns; and Dvorak's Piano Trio No 2 Op 26 in Gm, written in the weeks after the death of his baby daughter.

Trio Rodin, one of the most outstanding Spanish young ensembles, have won acclaim for their intensity and their expressive and communicative style. They have won a number of major international awards and played leading concert halls throughout Europe.
