Said said Nialler9 of the Dublin band, Fontaines DC, who take great care in selecting meaningful images for the covers of their 7" singles, with most drawn from real-life characters of Dublin between the 1930s and 1960s. Nialler9 again: "Release covers give a band like Fontaines DC, the opportunity to tell their story and represent themselves, their music and particularly, in this case, their city."
Similar imagery is again found on the new single, 'Too Real', backed with 'The Cuckoo Is A-Callin', due for release on December 21 via Partisan Records and Bandcamp.
The band's indie-punk sound has been praised by BBC 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, while Stereogum has called their music "snarling, swaggering post-punk". Previous singles, ‘Liberty Belle’ and ‘Hurricane Laughter’, reveal the influence of The Modern Lovers, The Fall, Iggy Pop, and The Strokes, while ‘Chequeless Reckless’ hints at The La’s, The Pogues, Buddy Holly, and Krautrock!
Fontaines DC play the Róisín Dubh on Saturday December 15 at 8pm. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh.
