RTÉ Concert Orchestra Festival Proms

'An Invitation to the Dance' with David Brophy conducting the orchestra in waltzes, polkas, hornpipes, tangos, and Tchaikovsky

THIS YEAR'S line-up at the Heineken Big Top is the biggest in the festival’s 41-year history, with 10 acts taking to the stage over 14 days - one of which is the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for the Festival Proms concert on Saturday July 28.

This seated concert, which is suitable for families, promises to feature a programme of foot-tapping classics. The theme is 'An Invitation to the Dance' with David Brophy conducting the orchestra in waltzes and polkas, hornpipes and tangos, a Mexican hat dance, Zorba’s Dance, works by Tchaikovsky, a French pavane via Kalinka, and Bill Whelan’s Riverdance, which was performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at the 1994 Eurovision.

Joining the orchestra is the critically acclaimed Irish soprano Sinead Campbell-Wallace, who will sing 'I Could Have Danced All Night' from My Fair Lady, the Czardas from Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, and Musetta’s famous 'Waltz Song' from Puccini’s La Bohème.

Other headline acts performing in the Heineken Big Top are Madness, Caribou, The Stunning, The Flaming Lips, Gavin James, Amadou & Mariam, Kodaline, and Walking on Cars. Closing out GIAF18, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will once again take to the stage on Sunday July 29 with 2FM DJ Jenny Greene for a sensational end of festival party (sold out ).
