ORBITAL to play Galway International Arts Festival

Legendary live dance act to headline Heineken Big Top

Galway International Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh are delighted to announce that legendary live dance act ORBITAL will headline the Heineken Big Top at Galway International Arts Festival this July in what will be their only Irish gig of the summer.

With nine studio albums and three decades of electronic dance music performances to their name, ORBITAL are known for their legendary live shows in front of huge festival crowds.

The brothers from Kent have been making waves on the techno scene since their 1989 debut single ‘Chime’ became a rave anthem.

The Guardian credited ORBITAL with ‘converting’ the 1994 Glastonbury Festival to dance music, with a performance Q magazine would call one of the top 50 gigs of all time. The band was also included in Q’s 2002 list of ‘50 Bands to See Before You Die.’ The have also won NME Awards for “Best Dance Act” and “Best Live Event.”

Paul and Phil Hartnoll’s diverse hits include remixes of Madonna and Kraftwerk and collaborations with soundtrack composer Angelo Badalamenti and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet.

Heineken Big Top audiences can expect to hear classic singles like ‘Chime,’ ‘Style,’ ‘The Box,’ and ‘Satan’, as well as songs from their latest studio album, Monsters Exist, released September 2018.

ORBITAL will play the Heineken Big Top on Saturday 27th July 2019. Tickets, priced at €49.50, go on sale Monday 11 February at 9am.

Galway International Arts Festival 2019 takes place from 15-28 July 2019, with The Academic (Saturday 20 July ), Two Door Cinema Club (Friday 26 July ) and Bell X1 (Friday 19 July ) already announced for the Heineken Big Top. More acts are set to be announced ahead of the full programme release in May.

Galway International Arts Festival would like to acknowledge the support of its principal funding agencies the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland, its Drinks Partner Heineken and Education Partner NUI Galway.
