Breakdance in Westside

Youth Work Ireland is facilitating breakdance workshops with Galways finest B-boy Stan and the I Nee Money Cru in Westside Community Centre every Thursday evening.

Two sessions are being offered for children aged nine and upwards, from 5pm to 6pm, and 6pm to 7pm. All levels of experience are welcome to learn in a fully supervised, relaxed, and friendly environment. The I Nee Money Cru are also running weekend workshops on Saturdays at 2.30pm in Shantalla Community Centre. Brothers of Charity make it happen for people with learning disabilities

A conference celebrating the lives and achievements of people with learning dissabilities took place in Loughrea last week. The conference titled Making it happen sought to recognize the achievements of disabled people in the East Galway region.

Many of the people involved have had to overcome various obstacles in their desire to become respected members of their community. Despite these hurdles more than 40 people told their story to a captive audience.

Defence forces invade Eyre Square

Four hundred and twenty members of the Defence Forces will converge on Eyre Square this morning at 12 noon. The troops who are being deployed to the UN mission in Chad, will be inspected by the Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea TD and accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Dermot Earley. The lead unit in the battalion is the Irish speaking Chéad Cathlán Cois (1st Infantry Battalion) from Galway. Also present will be Commandant Maureen O’Brien, the first female deputy commander of an overseas unit. The unit will be deployed to Chad on May 21 to replace the 99th Infantry battalion
