The Galway City Council must deliver on its promise to build a community centre for Doughiska, the fastest growing area in the city, according to Fine Gael Galway City East candidate Barra Nevin.
Mr Nevin says a community centre for the 7,000 people living in the area is necessary as it would serve as a meeting place for community and sports clubs and act a hub for the local population. He added that the community centre needs to have changing rooms to complement the nearby playing fields in Doughiska Park.
As an interim measure, Mr Nevin is calling for the temporary provision of changing rooms for the area.
“City Hall has an obligation to deliver on this to the people of Doughiska,” he said. “Young people should be encouraged to take part in sports and youth organisations which promotes healthy living, helps to make new friends, and prevents anti-social behaviour.”
