Amendoeira is home to the Oceanico O’Connor Jnr course and the Oceanico Faldo course. Three fourballs will travel on November 18 for three nights and flights from Dublin to Faro, accommodation and golf will be included.

The first Irish Geological Association (IGA) branch west of the Shannon was launched yesterday evening at 8pm in the geology museum (Quad building), at NUI Galway. Activities of the new IGA branch will include the recording and collecting of data on field trips to places of local geological interest, trips further afield with like-minded groups, and involving itself with the conservation and protection of local sites of scientific, educational and heritage interest. On meeting nights lectures will be provided for members by visiting speakers. Annual membership will be €20 per individual, €30 per family, or €5 per student.

A Limerick man charged with deceiving punters at the Galway Races with a three card trick was given the benefit of the Probation Act.
John Butler (55) with an address at 3 Sunshine Villas, Thomondgate, Limerick, appeared at Galway District Court this week where he pleaded guilty to dishonestly by deception inducing persons to lay bets on a three card trick game with the intention of making gain at The Galway Race Course, on July 26, 2011.
