Whether you like, dislike, post daily, love uploading endless photographs and tagging your mates, the joys of Facebook still remain popular, with Galway having the fourth highest number of people on the social network site in Ireland.
PR company Edelman has recently released an ‘infographic’ confirming that almost 44 per cent of the Irish population are on Facebook. The figures show that Facebook users in Ireland have more than doubled in the past two years. Members grew from 905,980 in August 2009 to 2,014,100 by August 2011.
Unsurprisingly it is Dublin city that has the biggest number of Facebook users with 780,240 having an account. This is followed by Cork with 145,120, Limerick with 79,120 members, and Galway with 71,240. The figures also show that Waterford has 45,600 members, Sligo 26,540, Mullingar 25,680, and Wexford 22,840.
Nationally the largest group of Facebook users is the 25 to 34 age category with 620,000, followed by the 18 to 24 age group with 475,000, the 35 to 44 age group wtih 357,000, the 13 to 17-year-olds with 276,000, the 45 to 54-year-olds with 163,000, and finally the 55 to 64 year olds with 69,000.
The 10 most popular brands on Facebook in Ireland are: Baileys (1,174,168 likes ), Guinness Ireland (275,344 likes ), Jameson (257,538 likes ), Penney’s (237,953 likes ), Oxegen (201,818 likes ), Tayto (159,395 likes ), Tourism Ireland (143,438 likes ), Captain Morgan’s (123,826 likes ), Ben & Jerry’s (110,902 likes ) and Ryanair (98,160 likes ).
