Hi, my name is Ben Reid. I am an uilleann piper and a travelling musician. Originally I'm from Canada, but since attending the University of Limerick six years ago, I've been travelling and playing trad music on the streets and in the pubs in France, Ireland, Australia, the US, and Canada. This year I decided to finally settle in Galway. I love the vibrant music scene here as well as the incredibly warm and welcoming people I've met while busking. I truly feel at home in this city and I'm grateful it has adopted me as well!

My name is Carrie Budds. I am a proud Cork woman who was adopted by the amazing city & people of Galway more than a decade ago. In the late 1990s, I studied for my degree in Limerick and by a happy coincidence, I ended up living with a group of mad Galwegians. And from then, all I wanted was to have a “Galway passport”, which I think I can safely say I have now. My favourite thing about Galway is the lifestyle balance it embraces. For a cold, wet swamp on the west coast of the most Western part of Europe, it is one of the most active places I’ve lived. As a Personal Trainer, I love seeing people being active, especially outdoors. There are always people out cycling, running, walking, skate-boarding or swimming at Blackrock, even on days when the wind is blowing them sideways. And there is always a festival, culture night or other events to feed the mind too. There’s always something going on! I also love how easy it is to get around (though I know some people will cry “but the TRAFFIC!!”). I cycle as much as possible, and try to encourage other people to do the same with our regular Mindful Commute days in the city. It is often faster to get around on your own steam than in the car. I see myself living here until I’m auld shtock, and love the idea that my daughter Easkey will grow up in such a diverse, active and accepting city. H’on the Tribesmen (unless they’re playing the Rebels of course!)

Hi, I'm Barry, a native of Co. Mayo originally studied Television Production in Dún Laoghaire and Theatre Performance in Galway. However, it was in the Tour Guiding course with Fáilte Ireland in Limerick in 2012, that I found the perfect way to combine my love of performance, storytelling and history. Walking tours around Galway City were I first foray into guiding, and later, the ol flair for performance and comedy came to the fore as a performer on the Galway Gravedigger Ghostbus Tour. Finally, I joined the team at Adventure Trails Ireland: What I love about tour guiding is connecting with amazing people from all around the world and being able to explore and share Galway's rich heritage through food, drink and storytelling. My name is Bryna Milton, a 16-year-old student living in Galway. I live in Clarinbridge, the home of the oyster, and I absolutely love it. Clarinbridge has been my home for 13 years now and my heart swells with pride when I say I’m from there. It’s a 10-minute drive from Oranmore, where my school, Calasanctius College, is based. I’m in Transition Year now and couldn’t be happier. I’m here doing my work experience at the Galway Advertiser which I love. There’s always an interesting project for me to work on and everyone is lovely. I’m ecstatic for the year ahead because I get to take part in many activities that I am very privileged to do, like charity work and Chinese.

Hello, my name is Paschal, this is Socks (the Horse)... I'm a Galway man through and through, living in Craughwell, Co. Galway. I was in the defence forces for 38 years, involved in the RDF Unit or the FCA Unit and stationed in Loughrea for 15 years. For the past 26 years on and off I have brought my family, friends and the odd wedding couple around on my horse and cart. Then I started bringing tourists and the public around the city, I love doing what I am doing, it gives me great joy! There is such a great buzz in Galway, if you're in bad form and need a lift, just walk down shop street, high street or Quay street, you're sure to meet a smiling, friendly face to snap you out of it. We have some much here in Galway, the lakes, the Sea, the people and the laughter!

Hi, my name is Arun. I was born in Romanian and raised here in Ireland, so I consider myself to be Irish. I've been living in Galway for 17 years. Galway, I liked it the minute I came here in 2001. Before Galway, I was in Dublin, the place was so big, when I would go out it was really hard to make friends and but when I moved to Galway, my independence began the following day. I was able to pop to the shops on my own, go to college. The freedom is just amazing. I was lucky when wheelchair buses were implemented in Galway City, not all the routes had them at the time, sometimes I would face challenges but that has phased out thank God! This year I will volunteer with the Galway Arts Festival 2018. This year will be my 6th year, which shows how motivated and dedicated I am to the organisation and I love it, every year is different and so too is the work! I love volunteering especially when I find it hard to get paid work. Like everyone else, I have a lot of skills to offer any business in admin, photography but because I am a wheelchair user many businesses around the city see the wheelchair first and don't see the person or the skills that you have. While Galway is small and you make a lot of friends it's very hard to get a job because there are fewer opportunities. That's the Galway Ying and the Yang! I love to dance, my dancing technique is very different but the thing I love to do is capture people dancing, the enjoyment, the moment, the atmosphere, expressing their personalities with my photography. It's inspiring!
