Progress on greenway projects

There was good news for greenway projects in the county at a recent West Mayo Municipal District meeting with councillors being told that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) had approved €2.4 million for the development of the Clew Bay Greenway this year, with €1.9 million for the Achill section and €500,000 for the Murrisk section of the greenway.

O'Brien looks for extension of Shrule sewerage scheme

Cllr Patsy O'Brien has called on Irish Water to extend the current Shrule sewerage scheme. Speaking at the February meeting of the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District where he had a notice of motion down for discussion, he said that an extension of about 400m on the current scheme out the Dalgan Road is needed. Fianna Fáil councillor Damien Ryan supported the call, saying at the meeting there was an issue in the area where the ground is not suitable for septic tanks and there was a large concentration of them in the area.

Calls for changes to proposed rules on takeover of roads

Councillors in the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District have asked the Road Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) to revisit changes that are in the draft development plan for the county which will see roads needing to be taken in charge by the council before planning permission can be granted on a road. The issue was highlighted by Fine Gael councillor Neil Cruise, who got backing from his fellow councillors on his concern. The issue of a road also needing to have two houses on it at present before being taken in charge, was also raised, with Cllr John Cribben saying that if the road was up to standard, it should not matter if there was one house on it or 20.
