‘Thuggish behaviour’ by man after ‘horrific incident’ at A&E

The actions of a 31-year-old man who was involved in a “horrific incident” at the Accident and Emergency Department at Mayo General Hospital — when he was abusive to staff, was forcefully removed and then broke glass panels with his fist and a refuse bin, which resulted in A&E being evacuated — were described as “totally unacceptable behaviour” by Judge Mary Devins at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.

€5 million ward investment in Sacred Heart Hospital

Harrington back behind bars

Shell to Sea protester Maura Harrington was sent back behind bars for a further 14 days for failing to pay fines relating to her imprisonment in March. At the March court sitting in Belmullet, where Harrington denied claims that she slapped a member of An Garda Síochána during a protest at Pullathomas Pier on June 11 2007, she was sentenced to 28 days in prison.
