Inver National School in north Mayo is to retain a teacher in the coming academic year despite fears that the teacher numbers were to be reduced to two from September.
The news was announced by Mayo TD Beverley Flynn.
In welcoming the news Deputy Flynn said: “I am delighted for the parents, students, and staff that my campaign on behalf of Inver has been successful.”
Dep Flynn said that in addition to the retention of the teacher Minister for Education Batt O’Keefe has also promised additional sustained support for Inver National School in the years ahead.
“The Department’s PPDS unit is being directed to provide whatever resources are deemed appropriate for Inver,” she said. “It is envisaged that Inver will be given intensive support initially from the PPDS and will have support over a longer period than is usual.”
Dep Flynn commended the Minister on his decisions in favour of Inver and said she looks forward to making the case for the school to regain its DEIS status in 2010.
