A Polish man, who was found to be in possession of a large quantity of ecstasy and cannabis which he supplied to members of the Polish community in order to send the money to his sick mother, was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
Garda Donal Rafferty told the court that having received confidential information a search warrant was obtained for the home of Pawel Welecki, James Street, Claremorris, which was executed on August 1 2008, where 183 E tablets and cannabis herbs were found on the premises.

The Mayo County Council has been given approval to place a €2.677 million contract for the provision of a new wastewater treatment plant in Kiltimagh. The news was announced to Swinford electoral area councillor Jimmy Maloney by the Environment Minister John Gormley. Response Engineering Ltd has been granted the contract.

A 29 year old Ballyhaunis man was given a two year driving ban after pleading guilty to drink driving in Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Garda Leslie McMaster told the court that he stopped Michael Burke of Tullaghane, Ballyhaunis, at Curragh, Cloonfad, at 1am on the night of September 28 2008. He arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving and conveyed him to Castlebar Garda Station where McMaster gave a breath sample which gave a reading of 52mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

A Ballyhaunis man who was convicted for drink driving, and has a history of previous driving convictions dating back from 1991 to 2003 for drink driving and having no insurance, was given a five year driving ban and a €1,000 fine after being convicted of drunk driving this week.
