Man warned it’s prison next if convicted for driving offences again

A Ballyhaunis man who was convicted for drink driving, and has a history of previous driving convictions dating back from 1991 to 2003 for drink driving and having no insurance, was given a five year driving ban and a €1,000 fine after being convicted of drunk driving this week.

Garda Nicola Dolan told the court that she stopped Colm O’Leary, Devlis, Ballyhaunis on June 13 2007 at 5.10pm after receiving a call about a driver of a car at Swimming Pool Road, Ballyhaunis. She went on to say she spoke to O’Leary at the scene and arrested him under suspicion of drink driving and brought him to the Garda station where he gave a blood sample which returned a reading of 265mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined O’Leary €1,000, and imposed the minimum mandatory driving ban of two years and added on two more years ancillary, and warned him that if he had any further convictions for anything similar she would be imposing a custodial sentence.
