A 22-year-old mother of three children whose children are all under the ages of three, was disqualified from driving at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday after she was convicted of drink driving.
Kate Lawrence, 13 Hollow Grove, Castlebar, was detected drink driving on July 28 2008, where a subsequent blood analysis showed 256mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
Lynda Lenehan, defending solicitor, said that Lawrence had consumed three to four cans at home that night as she suffers with insomnia and that this combination with medication which she takes may have exacerbated the sample’s reading. Ms Lenehan said that the defendant went in to collect her husband from the pub that night when she was detected by gardaí.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Lawrence €700 and disqualified her from driving for three years.
