Gormley approves €2.6m for Kiltimagh wastewater plant

The Mayo County Council has been given approval to place a €2.677 million contract for the provision of a new wastewater treatment plant in Kiltimagh. The news was announced to Swinford electoral area councillor Jimmy Maloney by the Environment Minister John Gormley. Response Engineering Ltd has been granted the contract.

The Minister said that plans to provide a modern sewage treatment plant in Kiltimagh have been under development for some time and he was “delighted that the project has now reached a stage where the council can arrange to have the contract signed”.

Cllr Maloney added that he is particularly pleased that the scheme will replace the existing overloaded wastewater treatment plant in Kiltimagh, and that the provision of the new plant will help prevent pollution and cater for the town’s wastewater treatment needs well into the future. “This scheme has been lobbied long and hard for by myself and it gives me great pleasure to make this announcement on a well deserved investment in Kiltimagh.”
