Fine for speeding
A Claremorris man was convicted and fined for speeding in his absence at Claremorris District Court this week. Mark Hyland, 18 Mayfield, Claremorris was detected by Garda Standish O’Grady driving at 141km per hour in a 100km per hour zone at Castlemacgarett, Ballindine on April 22, 2009. He was convicted and fined €170.

A man who was convicted for a second time in just over a year of having no insurance was given a two year driving ban and fined €250 at Claremorris District Court.

An 18-year-old apprentice mechanic escaped a driving ban after pleading guilty to driving without insurance. Shane Power, 146 Sean Bhaile, Doughiska, Galway, was stopped by Garda Peter Sarsfield at Clare, Claremorris at 10.12pm on May 9 2009. He demanded that Power produce his driving licence and insurance within 10 days, which he failed to do.
