Fine for speeding
A Claremorris man was convicted and fined for speeding in his absence at Claremorris District Court this week. Mark Hyland, 18 Mayfield, Claremorris was detected by Garda Standish O’Grady driving at 141km per hour in a 100km per hour zone at Castlemacgarett, Ballindine on April 22, 2009. He was convicted and fined €170.
Fine for bald tyres
A Claremorris man whose employee was detected driving a tractor with a trailer which had three bald tyres and no rear identification pleaded guilty to the charges in Claremorris District Court. Garda John Daly stopped the tractor owned by Liam Trench, Garryduff, Claremorris, on May 4 2009 at Lugatemple, Claremorris. Three of the tyres on the trailer, which he had borrowed, were bald and there was no rear identification marks. He was convicted and fined €170 for one sample charge for the bald tyres and was also convicted and fined €150 for no rear identification mark.
Judge lets sentencing hang over the head of young man
Judge Mary Devins adjourned until March 16 2010 the sentencing of a young Claremorris man who was caught in possession of cannabis, so it would hang over his head while he got himself sorted out. Alan Fenwick, James Street, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to the charge of having €60 worth of cannabis on D’Alton Street, Claremorris on January 7 2009. The court was told that he had a difficult early adult life and teenage years, but he was getting help for his problems from a psychiatrist.
No insurance case adjourned to obtain certificate
A Hollymount man who was involved in a two car collision in Claremorris had his case adjourned until proof of his insurance could be provided by his former employer.
Shane Devane, Knockalegan, Hollymount, was involved in a two car collision in Claremont, Claremorris on May 16 2009. Garda Catherine Hoban demanded that he produce his insurance and driving licence within 10 days, which he failed to do. Devane told the court that he was driving a company vehicle at the time and he forgot to produce his insurance and licence within 10 days because he was training in Dublin. He went on to say he has since been let go by the company and has been trying to get in contact with his then superior to provide proof of insurance for him at the time. Judge Mary Devins adjourned the case until December 15 2009, so he could get the insurance certificate.
Fine for being drunk in public
A Lithuanian woman who pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place was convicted and fined €100 in Claremorris District Court this week.
Ingrida Ivoskate, 2 Mount Street, Claremorris was arrested by Garda Sharon Coleman at Clare Lake, Claremorris, on March 21 2009, where she was in a very intoxicated state according to Garda Coleman; she had to be helped to the Garda car because she fell a number of times.
