Sentencing adjourned for Balla man involved in house party assault

A Balla man who in an unprovoked attack struck another man twice in the face was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for a probation report in relation to the matter.

The case, which was heard earlier this year, outlined how Coleman Boyle, Main Street, Balla, struck David Monaghan in his face at a house party in Balla in November 2008, which caused him to lose a tooth. Boyle then struck the man again while he was searching for his tooth and another two teeth fell out.

Judge Mary Devins had adjourned matters to this Wednesday’s court where the report said that the attack seemed to be a once off incident and that the defendant does not have an issue with alcohol.

Boyle, who is a first year GMIT student in accounting, has since paid the injured party with money which he saved.

Judge Devins adjourned sentencing to June 16 2010.
